Rick Shipman started in business in 1991 as a single proprietor and operated under the business name of “Rick Shipman Construction.” In the beginning, staff consisted of Rick and three employees who specialized in concrete work locally in southeastern Missouri.

     In 1993 Rick expanded his service area and did several jobs as a subcontractor to other construction companies with contracts with Wal-Mart. The next year, Rick was given the opportunity to work directly for Wal-Mart as its own General Contractor on construction projects at that time.

     In 1999 Rick was awarded several contracts as the General Contractor for full remodels on existing Wal-Mart stores. Rick and his wife Barbara incorporated as an “S” corporation in 1999 and now operate under the name, “Rick Shipman Construction, Inc.”

     Since then, the company has experienced strong, steady growth in size and sales volume each year. Sales volume in 2003 was 10 times the volume of 1999. Employees now number around 90 and will surpass 100 by the end of 2003.
